Jack Mekalson led Battle Lake with 24 points on Monday night as the Battlers protected their home court with a 56-53 Little Eight Conference win over the Rothsay Tigers.  Battle Lake  got off to a good start and took a 31-24 lead into halftime.

“Rothsay did a nice job starting the second half and getting the ball inside to Jett Kulack who did a nice job finishing around the rim,” commented Battle Lake Head Coach Randy Dorn.  “The Battlers were able to hit some big shots down the stretch to secure a home victory against a well-coached Rothsay squad.”

Drew Johnson joined Mekalson in double digits with 17 points and Noah Mansker chipped in with 7 points.  Mason Dalluge and Owen Buehler had 4 points each.

“Our first game of the season was a tough one against the Tigers,” recalled Coach Dorn.  “It was nice for the boys to turn it around and get a big conference win in front of their home crowd.”

The Battlers hot 38% from the floor on the night.

Rothsay was led by Tanner Heier with 17 points and Kulack with 13.

“We were not consistent enough throughout the game on the defensive side of the ball,” said Rothsay Head Coach Taylor Fuhs.  “We had too many miscues communicating and talking.  Credit Battle Lake, they made some big shots down the stretch.”

Battle Lake (6-9, 4-4 LEC) stopped a four game losing streak with the win.  They will host Parkers Prairie in a conference game on Friday night.

Rothsay (5-11, 3-4 LEC) will host Hillcrest on Friday.
