The Ashby Arrows defeated the West Central Area Knights 69-66 on Monday night in Ashby.  Ashby hit 26-52 (50%) shots and 9-20 (45%) threes.

Knights Coach Kraig Hunter said, "We ran into a big, athletic, talented team and they were ready to play us. They shot the ball very well including some of their role players. Our kids competed and worked hard but ultimately we got outrebounded badly and were too stagnant in our offense in the first half."

The Knights hit 25-51 (49%) shots and 8-20 (40%) threes. From the free throw line the Arrows were 7-19 and the Knights 8-13.

Cam Anderson led the Knights with 21 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Cole Anderson was solid again with another double-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds, and added 3 assists. Mitch Dewey scored 10 points, Ryder Staples 8, Nasir Dotts 7, Bryce Kjesbo 2, Jake Strunk 2, and Isaac Kreft 1.

Jacob Cook led the Arrows with 30 points, Torin Olson 14, Hunter Norby 8, Carson Spangler 8, Matson Hoff 7, and Brodie Ecker 2.

“Against an excellent team like the Knights, you are required to compete hard for the entire 36 minutes,” noted Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “We lost intensity especially at the defensive end.  Our team defense broke down the last ten minutes of the game and we rely on it to carry over to good movement of the basketball offensively.”

Ashby (11-1) will play at Rothsay on Thursday and will host Battle Lake on Friday.

West Central Area (11-3) has back-to-back home games on Thursday with Ortonville and on Friday with Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.
