Tori Ratz buried 8 3-pointers and scored a game high 33 points to lead the Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team to a 75-43 win over the Breckenridge Cowgirls in the 3rd place game of the Country Inn and Suites Holiday Tournament on Wednesday at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium.
The Otters had a 20-2 run early in the game but Breckenridge fought back hard and cut the Otters lead to 3 points. Fergus Falls extended the lead to 36-27 at the half and went on a 15-0 run to start the second half to increase their lead to 51-27.
“We had a great defensive effort tonight,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Josh Steer. “We created some scoring opportunities off our defense in the first half and that was a key to our win. We also were able to weather a nice run by them and took control with a great start to the second half.”
Ellie Colbeck scored 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 7 assists and came up with 6 steals. Ainsley Hansen finished with 6 points and 6 steals. Brynn Sternberg and Hannah Polejewski did a nice job on the boards with 7 and 6 rebounds, respectively.
Fergus Falls shot 42% from beyond the Arc and 39% overall. They also had a 39-32 edge on the boards and took great care of the ball with only 6 turnovers.
Parker Yaggie, Abby Johnson and Carcie Materi all had 8 points to lead the Cowgirls. Abby Twidwell had a team high 9 rebounds.
Ratz and Colbeck were named to the All-Tournament team along with Ana Erickson of Breckenridge.
Fergus Falls is now 6-3 and the Cowgirls go to 3-7 with the loss.
