The Ashby girls’ basketball team traveled to Ortonville on Tuesday night for a non-conference game with the Lady Trojans. The Arrows were defeated by the Trojans, 71-34 with Ortonville leading 37-25 at the half.

Ashby was still looking for their first win, but this could also be the game that Senior Celi Nelson scores her 1000th point of her career. Celi started the game with 991 career points. Celi scored those points in the first half of the game, and ended the night with 16.

“A big thanks goes out to the Ortonville School, girls’ basketball team, and administration who graciously stopped the game and gave the Ashby fans and players a moment to recognize this awesome accomplishment,” said Head Coach Brenda Johnson of the Arrows.

Johnson continued, “Celi has been playing varsity basketball since she was in the 8th grade. She has spent several hours in the gym. Celi was at early morning open gym in the summer and during the school year. She has been sharpening her basketball skills since she was in elementary basketball. This accomplishment goes to a young lady so deserving, but behind this hard working young lady, is a family and extended family who is supportive and willing to give of themselves, so Celi could reach this milestone. On behalf of APS, the Ashby GBB team, Coaches, and fans, we all want to extend a huge Congratulations to Celi!”

This game saw the two teams shoot a combined total of 74 free throws, the Arrows were 19/41 and the Trojans were 16/33. The Trojans won the battle on the boards and were able to convert on 4 of their 3's and the Arrows had no 3's to show in the book.

The Arrows were still without starter BrookeLinn Finkelson. “BrookeLinn is a big part of our defense and rebounding,” noted Johnson.

Along with Nelson's 16 points, she had 8 rebounds. Marissa Ludwig had 8 points and 3 boards, Ivy Aufdenkamp came off the bench to score 5 points, and grab 3 D boards, Ayden Behrens had 3 points and 5 rebounds and Chloe Finkelson rounded out the scoring with 2 points and 3 boards.

The Arrows are off until January 4th when they play at home vs. Ortonville.

No Ortonville information was received.
