The Ashby Arrows welcomed the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines for a girls’ basketball contest on Friday night. The Wolverines left with the win. They defeated the Arrows 86-37. The Arrows were without starter and leading rebounder BrookeLinn Finkelson and their 6th player off the bench Lucy Ohren due to illness. “The Wolverines were able to break down our 2-3 zone with solid outside shooting and splitting the top two girls in our zone,” stated Ashby Head Coach Brenda Johnson. “This strategy led to several mis-matches on defense.”

The young Arrows got into early trouble and had to go to their bench. Sienna Williams and Ivy Aufdenkamp gave the Arrows some solid minutes. The Arrows had 5 players put points on the board and two in double figures.  “Marissa Ludwig had her best game last night,” noted Coach Johnson. “She was able to get some steals, draw fouls, and put 10 points in the scoring column.”

Celi Neson, the Arrows lone senior and floor general, led the team with 17 points. Other Arrows in the scoring column were Chloe Finkelson and Quynn Behrens with 4 each, and Ivy Aufdenkamp completed the scoring with 2.

“The Arrows are showing growth and improvement in several areas of the game, but as we are improving so are our opponents,” added Johnson. “We will continue to work hard and stay positive.”

The Arrows next game is in Ortonville on Tuesday and then they'll open up the season after Christmas break against Ortonville on the 4th.
