John Holsten is in his fourth year as head coach of the Ashby boys’ basketball team.  His Arrows had a 19-1 record a year ago, winning the Little Eight Conference title with a perfect 12-0 mark.  The Arrows lost key personnel Jaden Norby, Ashton Ecker, Bobby Anderson and Miles Hoff to graduation, but return 10 seniors from that very successful team.

Returning letter winners include Jacob Cook (F), Hunter Norby (F), Torin Olson (G), Jackson Finkelson (F), Sam Heeter (P), Matson Hoff (G), Evan Paulson (G), Sam Sorenson (P), Carson Spangler (G) and Carter Spangler (G).  Cook, Norby and Olson will serve as team captains.

Coach Holsten will also be looking for contributions from juniors Bradee Christianson (F) and Brodie Ecker (G), sophomore Kellen Dahlen (F) and freshman Easton Nelson (G).

“We have good depth and positive leadership from our seniors,” reported Coach Holsten.  “We need a total commitment from everyone to compete on defense and take good shots.  We expect each player to bring something every day that will make us a better team.”

Holsten will be assisted by Jeremy Quernemoen, Cody Nordick and Dick Cordes.

Coach Holsten sees Mahnomen-Waubun, Hancock, New York Mills, Henning, BBE, Benson, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, Parkers Prairie, Hillcrest and Brandon-Evansville as teams that will be in the mix for the Section 6A championship.
