The Rothsay boys basketball team hosted Mahnomen/Waubun in a boys/girls doubleheader Saturday afternoon. In the boys matchup the Thunderbirds took a 41-24 point lead in the half. But the Tigers did not go away, cutting the lead to 11 with just under 9 minutes to go. The Thunderbirds then went a flurry and extended their lead to a 80-53 victory.
"I thought we really competed," said Rothsay Head Coach Taylor Fuhs. "The final score does not reflect how well we played for the majority of the game. Mahnomen/Waubun is so talented and physical, I thought our boys really played hard and well. Just a lot of little things that led to a deficit."
Rothsay was led by Chris Carrillo with 24 points.
