The Rothsay boys’ basketball team hosted the Henning Hornets in their home opener on Friday night.  Henning took a 33-22 lead into halftime and completed the game with a 67-52 victory.

"I thought we came out and competed really well throughout the game,” said Rothsay Head Coach Taylor Fuhs. “We could tell we had some first game excitement early.  Henning did a great job continually attacking us and we had too many miscues defensively to cut the lead to a good margin."

Rothsay was led by Tanner Heier with 18 points and Chris Carrillo with 17.

Leaders for Henning were Tanner Arndt (25 points, 5 assists, 9 rebounds, 4 steals), Calvin Stueve (12 points, 4 steals), Kale Misegades (8 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Lane Dilly (8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals).  Tyson Misegades had 5 assists, 3 steals, 3 points and 3 rebounds.

“It was nice to pick up a win our first time out,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades

“We shot poorly from the perimeter while battling foul trouble and an early injury. But, we did enough good things to pick up the victory.  I thought we brought good energy on the defensive end of the floor. We just need to improve our ball movement and efficiency on offense.”

Henning shot 41% (26-62) from the field and made 22% (4-18) of their 3’s, while sinking 57% (11-19) of their free throw opportunities.

The Hornets next game will be in Browerville on Tuesday night.  They will return home to host Pillager on Thursday.
