The graduation of Mackenzie Foss (M State), Audra Ewan and Cassandra Twedt has created some holes to fill in the rotation for the Hillcrest girls’ basketball team, but that means opportunity for members of the 2021-22 Comets.

The cupboard is definitely not bare as the Comets return Madison Foss (JR, Guard), Madison Ballweg (JR, Guard), Ella Knutson (8th Grade, Guard) and Regan Wiertzema (SR, Forward) who all had extensive varsity playing time a year ago.

Head Coach Hannah Clark, now in her fifth season, will be looking for seniors Natalie Zwiers (Forward) and Alivia Holmquist (Guard), sophomore Chloe Johnson (Guard) and freshman Ruby Peterson (Guard) to step into varsity roles as well.

“This group of girls put a lot of time in the gym this summer,” said Coach Clark.  “They have great chemistry and want to work hard for each other.  We will be quick and athletic at the guard positions and we have multiple girls who will be able to shoot the 3 and get to the basket.”

Clark, who is assisted by Emily Frustol and Reese Ellison, says Underwood is the top team in the Little Eight Conference and Hancock and Breckenridge are the favorites in Section 6A.
