Losing all-time leading rebounder Grace Conzemius and fellow senior Jude Held (now at NDSCS) to graduation, leaves the Breckenridge Cowgirls with a couple of big holes to fill on the basketball court, however, they have some great experience returning, led by returning starters Carcie Materi (SG/SF) and Camryn Kaehler, both seniors, and junior Abby Johnson (PG/SG).  Materi tied a school record with 31 points in a game and established a new record for 3’s made in a game with 9.

Other letter winners back from the Cowgirls 12-7 (7-5 HOL) season of a year ago included senior Ana Erickson (SG/SF), juniors Addie Twidwell (C) and Kelsey Ceroll (PG/SG/SF), and 8th-graders Johnica Bernotas (PG/SG) and Parker Yaggie (PG/SG/SF/PF).  Junior Grace Miranowski (C) and sophomore Grace Nicholson (PG/SG) are also looking for varsity playing time.

“Some of our strengths this year will be that we return a lot of our key players from last year and they have a lot of varsity experience already,” said Head Coach Austin Imdieke.  “Another strength will be our guard play and our ability to shoot the ball from outside at a high percentage.  We have a handful of girls that can play and guard multiple positions.  Some weaknesses may be our lack of size overall that might lead to us having some difficulty rebounding the ball consistently.  Defensively, we need to be able to find another gear this year and be able to defend at an elite level.”

Imdieke, who is assisted by Tony Bogenreif and Ashtyn Kaehler, says Hancock, Underwood, Henning and Breckenridge are the top teams in Section 6A, while the Cowgirls top competition in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference will come from Hawley, Barnesville and Perham.
