The Fergus Falls Boys Golf Team competed on day 1 of the Central Lakes Conference Championship tournament on Monday at Territory Golf Club in St Cloud.  The CLC Championship is a new format which is played over 2 days to decide the CLC team championship as well as the individual champion.

The young Otters are in 5th place out of 9 after day 1 with a team score of 329.  Riley McGovern (freshman), Charlie Fuder (sophomore), and Chance Fazio (senior) all led the way with solid rounds of 82.  Gavin Goepferd (freshman) rounded out the top 4 with an 83.

"Proud of these boys today.  I keep telling them that it is about the experience, not the score as most of these youngsters haven't seen these golf courses before.  But they played great today and we are building something special here." - Otter coach Matt McGovern said.

The Otters also had 2 other great scores with Ryan Nelson (freshman) shooting an 85 and Adam Kennedy (eighth grade) shooting an 86.

Alexandria is winning the team event after day 1 with a great score of 302.  Individually, Tucker Haakonson of Rocori and Logan Hamak of Sartell are leading with rounds of 1 under, 71.

The Otters will play in round 2 on Tuesday at the Legacy at Cragun's in Brainerd.  "Just looking to keep our momentum and keep improving with these young guys. Tuesday will be a good day,"  McGovern added.
