12U Otters Pull Off Double Header Sweep of Alexandria

The Fergus Falls Otters 12u baseball team hosted Alexandria 12u AAA on Monday, May 10, 2021 and came away with a sweep by the scores of 2-1 and 4-2.

In the first game, the Otters jumped on the board in the second inning with Logan Schoon singling and coming around to score on a big hit by Benett Thielke. The Cardinals came back and scored one in the 4th to tie the game. The Otters were held in check until the bottom of the sixth when Jacob Jenc led off and was hit by a pitch. The Cardinals were afraid of Jenc’s speed on the bases and tried to pick him off. The throw to first went wide and then another throw by Alex went in the left field and Jenc scored the winning run to walk off the Cardinals. Brody Krein started on the bump for the Otters and pitched 3 no-hit innings while striking out 5. Caleb Fronning relieved Krein and sealed the game for the Otters by going 3 innings while striking out 7. Krein, Schoon, Thielke, and Kellen Funkhouser were the hitting leaders in game 1.

The Otters jumped on the Board in the 1st inning in the 2nd game. Fronning singled and came around to score on Krein’s single. Alex took the lead in the 3rd by pushing two runs across. The Otters came back in the 4th to score 3 runs with Fronning singling and scoring, Nolan Felstul walking and coming around to score, and Kadyn Zender walking and scoring. Josh Horgen started the 2nd game on the mound and pitched 3 efficient innings while only giving up 2 hits and striking out 5. Felstul relieved Horgen and went two solid innings only giving up one hit, no runs, and striking out 3. Jenc came in and saved the game for the Otters in the 6th while striking out 1 and allowing no runs. Hitting leaders for the Otters in game 2 were Fronning with 3 hits (3b), Krein with 2 hits, and  John Abrahams and  Funkhouser with a hit each.

With the two wins, the Otters improve to 5-0 on the season. “I am proud of the way our team competed today against as very good Alexandria team,” said coach Chad Felstul. Next, the Otters travel to Fargo for a tournament this weekend.
