WCA Boys win opening golf meet by 32 strokes

The West Central Area Knights boys golf team scored a 337 team score to win their home meet at Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course on Thursday. Hillcrest was the runner-up at 369.  Other team scores were Ashby 406, Border West 407, Pillager 420, Rothsay 432, OTC and Underwood had incomplete team scores.

 

Trevor Swonger of Underwood was the medalist with a 77 on a day that had temperatures in the high 30's most of the day.  Other medal winners were 2nd-Joel Quam of Hillcrest with an 80, 3rd- Grant Beuckens, WCA with an 80; 4th- Mitch Dewey, WCA 84; 5th- Carter Dilly, OTC 85; and 6th- Peyton Hanson, WCA-85.

Knight Coach Kraig Hunter said, "We are pleased with our performance for the first meet of the year and fortunate to have three of the six medal winners with Tate Christenson close behind with an 88.  Of course in golf, you always feel there are strokes you left on the course and our guys are excited to try to keep getting better each meet."

Knights scoring was Beuckens 80, Mitch Dewey 84, Hanson 85, Christenson 88, Marshall Dewey 92, and Devon Benson 101.

Celi Nelson of Ashby was the girls’ medalist with an 88. Other medal winners for the girls were 2nd-Ady Tysdal, OTC 96; 3rd-Audra Ewan, Hillcrest 98; 4th-Lexi Hunter, WCA;  107;  5th-Madi Ness, OTC 109; and 6th- Annie Claney, Hillcrest 113.   

OTC won the girls team title with a 329. Hillcrest finished second with a 342 and West Central Area was third with a 391.
