Chuck Ross is in his eighth season coaching golf at Underwood High School.  The Rockets compete in the Quad County Conference and in Section 6A.  Chad Gronner serves as the assistant coach.

“Of course there was no season last year, but I think as a boys’ team we would have been competitive,” said Ross.

The Rockets lost Canaan Kugler and Logan Frigaard to graduation.

“Junior Trevor Swonger is our only returning player with any experience,” noted Ross.  “He has been golfing varsity since seventh grade so I’m pretty sure he has some lofty goals for himself this season.  Trevor should be solid all season long, but our biggest weakness will be lack of depth.”

Junior Cole Peterson, freshman Griffen Gunderson and eighth-graders Jaxson Swonger and Hudson Risbrudt will get a lot of varsity experience this year.

As for the girls’, “This is the first time in a while where we have the potential for the girls to golf in a varsity meet,” shared Ross.  “Junior Amber Frigaard might have made the varsity team last year, but of course the season was cancelled.  I know that she played quite a bit this summer and is much improved.  Ninth-graders Maddy Hoen and Kailey Burgau have pretty good swings, but just need to gain some experience at the JV level.”

“It’s really hard to know about the top teams in our Section since we didn’t have a season last spring and I really don’t know what teams have coming back,” added Ross.  I would say OTC is the favorite for the conference as they are always pretty solid.”
