The West Central Area girls’ basketball team had a 43-33 edge on the boards and shot 40% (23-57) from the field on Thursday night as they posted a 64-53 win over the Henning Hornets to win the Section 6A championship, qualifying for the quarterfinal round of the Class A State Tournament which will be held on Tuesday night at a location to be determined. Their opponent will be determined during seeding over the weekend.
Henning struggled from the field, making just 34% 917-50) of their shots.
Lexi Bright (21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists) and Claire Stark (19 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks) both recorded double-doubles for the Knights. Macy Grosz contributed 9 points and Elizabeth Rustan snared 6 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and came up with 5 steals while scoring 4 points.
Ellie Dague led the Hornets with 15 points, making 6-of-8 free throws. Kylie Frederick was also in double figures with 11, while Faith Fisher and Megan Weber contributed 9 points each.
West Central Area (17-5) ran their winning streak to five games and won for the 12th time in their last 13 games.
Henning ends the season with a record of 20 wins and 2 losses.
