The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team hosted Park Christian School on Thursday night in Fergus Falls.  The Comets put together two solid halves of basketball as they led 37-16 at the half and won the game by the final score of 69-37.

“After a bit of a slow start, our full court defense was able to cause a little bit of havoc and create some turnovers that turned into easy buckets,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “It was great to give our second unit extended minutes tonight. They all have different skills that they've identified and are looking to improve down the stretch, so it was great to be able to give them game minutes to be able to focus in on those particular areas. It was also great to allow our starters to get some rest as well as observe and encourage and teach their teammates. They will all need each other if we're going to do any meaningful work in the playoffs.”

The Comets shot 46% (31-67) from the field and had 40 rebounds on the night.  Micah Foss (16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals), Noah Brumfield (13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), Evan Olstad (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals), Sam Brumfield (8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals) and Zeke Ihrke (7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals) were the leaders on the court for the Comets.

Micah had another great night getting to the rim. In limited minutes he put up 16, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals,” noted Coach Garvin. “Sam Brumfield has also become such a great defender on and off the ball. He's really improved his positioning and his discipline with his hands - when to challenge the ball handler and when to simply play nose-to-ball defense. Lots of great contributions all-around tonight. It's fun for us to see this team mature together.”

Cole Wyland led the Falcons with 8 points and Austin Carlson added 7.
