Owls Go to 9-0 with Win Over Lady Knights

The Hancock girls’ basketball team remained unbeaten with a 62-45 win over West Central Area on Friday night.  The Owls made 57% (20-35) of their field goal attempts.

Carlee Hanson (18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists), Rylee Hanson (14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals) and Misti Zempel (11 points) lead the Owls.  Kaitlyn Staples added 7 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists, and Alexis Staples chipped in with 7 points.

The Owls and they led 9-2 off of the tip. At the halfway mark the score was 36-17 in favor of the Owls. The game would get closer in the second half but never break the double digit mark for the Knights to put together a serious comeback. They were close to breaking the lead into single digits several times, but the Owls would not let it happen. The final was a 62-45 win for the Owls.

The Lady Knights were led by Elizabeth Rustan with 12 points, 7 rebounds, a steal and a block. Lexi Bright had 11 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks. Claire Stark had 8 points, a steal and a rebound. Brynn Fernholz had 6 points, 4 steals and 2 rebounds. Brooke Anderson scored 2 points and grabbed a rebound. Halle Foslien scored 2 points and grabbed a rebound. Kennedy Ulrich had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Macy Grosz had 2 points on the night. Kaitlyn Hansen had 2 rebounds and a steal. Sydney Ulrich had a rebound. Halle Grosz grabbed a rebound. Chloe LaRue had an assist on the night.

“The Owls did a great job tonight in all phases of the game,” said West Central Area Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “We know the things we need to work on to grow to the level we want to be at by the end of the year. I am happy that we did not give up on the game or each other even when things were not going our way. We will learn and get better moving forward.”

Hancock (9-0) plays at Battle Lake on Monday and will host Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Friday.

West Central Area (5-3) will entertain Parkers Prairie on Tuesday night and will play CGB in Graceville on Thursday.
