The West Central Area Lady Knights hosted the Wheaton Warriors on Friday night in a conference showdown in Barrett. The game started out as a defensive battle and baskets were hard to come by for both teams. The Knights slowly built a lead and right before halftime Wheaton put in a bucket and the score was 23-19 in favor of the Knights. The second half had the Knights grow a double digit lead, but that was dwindled down to 6 points with 3 minutes to play. The Knights would concede a basket and lead by four when the Warriors in an attempt to extend the game started to foul. The Knights would make free throws and limit the Warriors to one shot leading to the final score of 49-38.

The Lady Knights were led by Lexi Bright with 31 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Kaitlyn Hansen had 6 points, 2 steals, 2 rebounds and an assist tonight. Halle Foslien chipped in 4 points, 4 rebounds, a steal and an assist. Elizabeth Rustan had 3 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds and an assist. Sydney Ulrich scored 3 points and grabbed 2 rebounds tonight. Brynn Fernholz had 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Claire Stark had 6 rebounds and an assist. Brooke Anderson had 2 rebounds and a steal. Chloe LaRue grabbed 2 rebounds. Kennedy Ulrich grabbed 3 rebounds.

“The team is really working on the defensive end of the court and the effort as the entire team is the reason. The box score does not reflect the effort all of them put into the task of working hard,” commented Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “I am proud of what they accomplished after a battle just last night.”

West Central Area (4-2) will play at Battle Lake on Tuesday and will host Hancock on Friday night.
