The WCA Lady Knights played a non-conference game in Morris against the Tigers on Thursday night. The game started out with the two teams trading a few baskets and the Knights clinging to a one point advantage. The Knights went on a little run and were up 11-6. The rest of the first half the Knights would grow a lead to 16 points. The halftime score was 38-22. The second half the Tigers cut the lead to 8 points, but the Knights would prevail in the end by a final score of 63-50.
The Lady Knights were led by Lexi Bright with 30 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Elizabeth Rustan had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Kaitlyn Hansen had 7 points, a rebound, a steal and an assist. Chloe LaRue had 6 points, a rebound and an assist. Claire Stark scored 5 points, 2 assists, a rebound and a steal. Brynn Fernholz had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Halle Foslien had 2 points, 5 rebounds and an assist. Brooke Anderson had 2 rebounds and a steal. Sydney Ulrich had a rebound and a steal. Kennedy Ulrich grabbed 2 rebounds on the night.
“Tonight we did some great things to build the lead, but then we had a stretch we did not play strong,” said WCA Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “We sometimes feel the need to rush on offense when we need to simply take what the defense gives us and continue to look for our shots. Rushing things does not help us put the ball in the hole.”
