The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team earned their second win of the season when they went to Rothsay on Thursday night and brought home a 50-39 victory over the Tigers.

“We had good defensive ball pressure and we were able to force some turnovers that led to open looks at the basket,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “We've emphasized the importance of crashing the offensive boards and tonight we were able to get 15 offensive rebounds, and in turn 15 extra chances to score. Mackenzie Foss was able to score from both the inside and outside and she really led us on the offensive end. Everyone who played tonight scored and that is a key for us to be successful.”

Foss scored 21 points, snared 8 rebounds and came away with 4 steals for the lady Comets.  Madi Ballweg contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds, Madi Foss had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, Regan Wiertzema finished with 6 points and Audra Ewan chipped in with 5 points and 7 boards.

Leaders for Rothsay were Abby Honer and Kenadi Carlsrud with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Hillcrest (2-5) will host Hancock on Monday night, while Rothsay (1-6) will travel to Moorhead to face Park Christian School, also on Monday.
