Brandon-Evansville traveled to Fergus Falls Thursday night for their second meeting of the week with the Hillcrest Comets girls’ basketball team.  The Chargers led 26-21 at the half and went on to defeat the Comets, 60-56.

“On a night where not a whole lot went right for most of the game, the girls found a way to come out with a win,” stated Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zach Traphagen.  “We are happy to get our first road win of the year and get our record above .500. Need to shoot better in the paint, and from the free throw line. As the old saying goes, a win is a win.”

Mikenna Pattrin’s double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds) led the way for B-E.  Bailey Schaefer added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals.  Maddie Otto had 8 points, 3 rebounds and 4 steals, Kaytlyn Pattrin grabbed 7 rebounds and had 2 steals, and Sydney Schaefer chipped in with 6 points and 2 rebounds.

“We got off to a slow start and we couldn’t find any sort of rhythm on the offensive side of the floor,” said Head Coach Hannah Clark of Hillcrest. “We had a lot of unforced turnovers and we couldn’t get many shots to fall. The second half we looked more comfortable and we were able to knock down more of our shots. Mackenzie Foss did a great job leading the comeback in the second half and Madi Ballweg had some big plays on both ends of the floor to really help momentum swing our way. Unfortunately we just didn’t have enough to get the W-give credit to the Chargers they made some plays at the end of the game and knocked down their free throws.”

Mackenzie Foss scored 27 points, making 9-of-9 free throws in the process.  She also snared 6 rebounds and came up with 3 steals.  Ballweg had 9 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.  Madi Foss contributed 9 points and 5 boards.

“We struggled with the size and athleticism of the Chargers, but the girls battled hard the entire night,” concluded Clark. “I am proud of the way they played and we will learn a lot from this game as we look to improve the rest of the season.”
