Bailey Schaefer had a big night, registering a double-double (26 points, 10 rebounds), while coming up with 5 steals and dishing out two assists. Kaytlyn Pattrin was also in double figures with 10 points. Olivia Otto contributed 8 points, 4 rebounds and a team high 3 assists, and Mikenna Pattrin snared 6 rebounds. B-E shot 36% (22-61) from the field.
“It was a competitive conference basketball game,” said B-E Head Coach Zach Traphagen. “We made just enough plays in the end to pull out a victory, but it definitely was a hard fought one. We left a lot of points at the free throw line tonight that we have to improve on moving forward. Proud of the girls for playing hard and just finding a way to get our 2nd win of the young season.”
Hillcrest was led by Mackenzie Foss (13 points, 9 rebounds), Madi Ballweg (10 points), Madi Foss (8 points, 10 rebounds), Audra Ewan (6 points, 5 rebounds), Regan Wiertzema (6 points, 5 rebounds) and Ella Knutson (6 points).
“Offensively, we were able to move the ball around against their zone, get some nice open looks, and knock down our shots,” noted Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “We struggled with our transition defense and allowed the Chargers to get some easy points in the paint. Once again, we gave up too many offensive rebounds. We’ve got to be more disciplined in our box outs and limit our opponent’s second chance opportunities. We will fine tune some things in practice these next couple of days and prepare to face them again on Thursday. It should be another good, competitive game.”
Brandon-Evansville is now 2-2 on the season. Hillcrest (1-3) will host Brandon-Evansville in a return match on Thursday night in Fergus Falls.
