Fergus Falls senior divers Caleb Neubauer and Evan Erlandson, all three relay teams and senior Tyler Hansen have all qualified for the Boys Class A State Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday, February 28 through Saturday, March 2 at the Jean K Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

“We are so proud of the guy for their performance today,” said Head Coach Randy Hansen.  “They swam great yesterday and just kept it going today.  Fourth place overall is a great accomplishment.”

Neubauer placed second in the diving event with a score of 398.95 and Erlandson was third with a score of 384.80.  Both divers also qualified for the state meet last season.

“Caleb and Evan took care of business today,” added Hansen.  “They have had their sights set on State for the whole season and knew if they dove like they were capable that they should make it.  It will be fun to see them compete next weekend.”

Hansen was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.18.  The winner, Nick Olson of Alexandria turned in a time of 55.17, making for an extremely exciting finish to the race.

“Tyler’s 100 fly was the best race I have ever seen him swim, commented Hansen.  “He was in fifth place with twelve yards to go and just dug deep to storm back and take second.  As a coach and dad, I’m pretty proud of him.”

The 200 medley relay team started the meet by qualifying by time standard with a time of 1:42.65, good for fifth place in a deep event.  Team members are Titus Seland, Tristan Trosvig, Tyler Hansen and Will Pawlowski.

“Having the medley relay team qualified right away for state by time standard really set the tone for the meet,” noted Coach Hansen.

The 200 freestyle relay team qualified third with a time of 1:31.34.  Swimmers in this relay included Tristan Trosvig, Will Pawlowski, Titus Seland and Tyler Hansen.

“The 200 free relay boys all swam 22 second splits yesterday and were close to that today.  I think they have even faster times in them yet,” reported Coach Hansen.

The 400 freestyle relay team finished third with a time of 3:21.87, below the state cut time of 3:23.28.  Members of the relay team are Titus Seland, Will Pawlowski, Sean Edman and Tyler Hansen.

Coach Hansen said, “The 400 free relay was something to see.  We knew they would drop but could not have predicted over 12 seconds.  We are excited to see what we can do at state next weekend. Getting all three relays qualified is awesome!”

Fergus Falls took fourth place as a team with 219 points.  The event was won by Alexandria with 490 points. Sartell-St. Stephen was runner-up just one point back at 489 points.  Third place went to Melrose-Sauk Centre with 277 points.
