Alexandria Girls Overcome 9 Point Deficit to Beat Otters

The Alexandria Cardinals fell behind the Fergus Falls girls basketball team by 9 points (15-6) in the first half, but rallied behind seven first half three-pointers to pull even by halftime at 33-33.  The Cardinals put the defensive clamps on the Otters in the second half, holding the home team to just 11 points and taking a 52-44 victory, sweeping the season series.

The Cardinals finished with eight 3's on the night, three of them by Mia McGrane who had 15 points.  Kaye Paschka also had 15 points.

The Otters were led by Sam Evavold with 17 points.  Ellie Colbeck added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, while Lily Pearson had 7 points and 6 rebounds.  Tori Ratz added 5 rebounds and 3 assists and Sabrina Fronning had 3 assists and a pair of steals.

Alexandria had only 7 turnovers in the game and the Otters committed ten turnovers.  Fergus Falls was 8-for-11 from the free throw line, while the Cardinals made 8-of-16.

Fergus Falls had their nine game winning streak stopped with the loss as they went to 17-4 on the season.  They will play in a girl/boy doubleheader at St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday night.

Alexandria (18-3) recorded their sixth straight win and will play at Moorhead on Monday night.
