Spartan Men Bury 14 3's in Win Over Bluejays

For the second straight Saturday it was raining 3’s at M State as the Spartan Men’s Basketball team shot 50% (14-28) from beyond the arc on the way to an impressive 87-59 win over Minnesota West Community College from Worthington. The Spartans led 43-28 at the half. They were also quite efficient on the free throw line, making 11-of-14 (78.6%).

 

Samuel Priem and Kyler Newman each hit a trio of three-pointers as seven different Spartans hit a trey on the day. Priem was 5-for-9 from the field and led the team with 15 points. Newman was 5-for-8, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, finishing with 14 points off the bench. Martin LaFond had 12 points and two players, Austin Miller and Ty’Shawn Bryant finished with 10 points each. Aaron Solberg pulled down 13 rebounds to lead M State and Alend Alemadi dished out five assists. Alemadi also had 9 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Minnesota West shot 36.8% (21-57) from the floor and made just 14-of-27 (52%) of their free throws. They were paced by Deshawn Pickford with 19 points and Chris Morales with 16. M State had a 34-27 edge on the boards.

The Spartans are now 11-10 overall, 4-4 in MCAC Southern Division play and 10-1 on their home court. They will travel to Willmar to face Ridgewater Community College on Wednesday night.
