The Minnesota West Lady Bluejays held M State to 25 second half points on Saturday afternoon as they recorded a 71-56 victory over the lady Spartans. A 21 point second quarter brought the Spartans to a 31-29 lead at halftime, however, a ten point fourth quarter ended any hopes of a win.

"We struggled to play a full 40 minutes," stated M State Head Coach Janice Hendrickson.  "Minnesota West took advantage of our lack of energy in the fourth quarter and we weren't able to make our easy baskets."

Emily Schroer made 11-of-17 field goal attempts on the way to a 30 point performance. Emily Shaffer added 15 and Avery Van Roekel had 10 points and a team high 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Shelby Pourier contributed 7 rebounds off the bench and M’Kayla Mike had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Minnesota West hit 42% (25-60) of their field goal attempts and 73% (16-22) of their free throws.

Megan Dreger led M State with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Sydney Hovland added 13 points and 8 boards and Taylin Schleicher contributed 10 points. Alexa Mortenson grabbed a team high 10 rebounds off the bench. The lady Spartans hit just 32% (21-66) of their shots from the field, including 4-of-24 (17%) from 3-point range. They also made 83% (10-12) of their free throws.

The loss was the third in a row for M State, putting their overall record at 8-12 and their MCAC Southern Division mark at 2-5. They will travel to Willmar to face Ridgewater Community College on Wednesday night.
