On Friday night the Lady Knights hosted the Hancock Owls in a Pheasant Conference matchup, and to make it extra special it was Senior Night. The game had the Lady Knights fall behind 9-2 very early in the first half, but they responded and went on a 9-0 run to regain the lead 11-9. The Lady Knights went on a mild run and led 36-22 at halftime. The second half began and the Lady Knights increased their lead to a 22 point margin. In the second half Ella VanKempen scored her 1,000th point. The Lady Knights finished strong and capped off senior night with a little special flare. The final score was 88-57 in favor of the Lady Knights.
The Lady Knights had contributions from all 14 members and 11 of them made the scoring column. Brynn Fernholz had a career high of 29 points to go along with 5 steals and a rebound. Lexi Bright put in 13 points and had 6 steals, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and a block. Ella Van Kempen had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. Kennedy Ulrich scored 8 points with 2 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. Teagan Nelson netted 7 points and had a rebound, an assist and a steal. Kaitlyn Sansteadhad 6 points and 2 rebounds. Morgan Woodle scored 5 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, 3 steals and had an assist. Kaitlyn Hansen had 3 points and 2 assists. Elizabeth Rustan hit a deep three for her 3 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and a block. Hailey Bennett had 2 points, 3 rebounds and an assist. Halle Foslien scored 2 points. Brooke Anderson had an assist and a rebound tonight. Kaylyn Ulrichassisted on 3 baskets. Ireland Winter had a rebound.
“Tonight we started the game out slow and then found our rhythm and played a great second half. The Owls did a nice job never letting up and would cut the lead each time I thought we could finish it,” stated coach Eric Schoenbauer. He then added, “Our shooting tonight was phenomenal and that is the difference in the score tonight. It was a great Senior Night and having Ella hit 1,000 tonight made it even more memorable.”
