The Fergus Falls girls basketball team closed the game on a 23-8 run on Thursday night, overcoming a 32-29 deficit to beat the Brainerd Warriors by the score of 52-40 for their seventh consecutive victory. The win improves the Otters to 15-3 on the season and 8-2 in Central Lakes Conference play.
"I liked the way we stepped up without Lily Pearson in the lineup tonight," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Brad Strand. "We also had a good ending to the game. In the beginning it looked like we hadn't practiced for a few days, but I thought our execution was good down the stretch."
Fergus Falls made ten 3-point field goals and hit 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Ellie Colbeck made five 3's and was perfect on six free throw attempts, finishing with a game high 21 points. Tori Ratz connected on four 3's, scoring 14 points, and Sam Evavold added a dozen. Sabrina Fronning led the Otters with 5 assists, 4 steals and 5 rebounds. Ratz added 5 rebounds and 3 assists, Evavold had 4 rebounds and 3 steals, and Colbeck dished out 3 assists.
Courtney Russell was the lone Warrior to reach double figures, scoring ten points.
Each team had 19 turnovers in the game. The Otters held a 26-16 edge on the boards.
In the JV game Fergus Falls lost to Brainerd, 43-38. Carlie Meis led the Otters with 12 points as they dropped to 15-2 on the year. In the 'C' game Fergus Falls won 65-22, improving to 15-1 on the season. Hannah Polejewski led the way with 12 points.
The Otters will have a makeup game on Monday in Detroit Lakes and will host St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday.
