Battle Lake hosted Parkers Prairie in a Little Eight Conference girls basketball game on Thursday night. The Panthers took a 32-17 lead, but Battle Lake battled back, holding the visitors to just six field goals in the second half in a hard fought 58-49 loss for the home team.

“I really give the girls credit, by not getting down on themselves when we fell behind right away,” said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso. “In fact, with about three minutes to go in the game we had cut the lead down to five points. In the next couple of possessions we got some good looks, but couldn’t get them to fall and couldn’t get those last couple of points. Our defensive effort was really great tonight, unfortunately, we put them on the line 21 times in the second half. In the end they converted 20 of 30 free throws and we only made 8 of 11. That proved to be the difference in the game and we actually made one more field goal than the Panthers.”

Allison Marso scored 21 points, including five 3’s to lead the Battlers, and Grace VanErp added 14 points.

“I was really proud of our all-around effort tonight,” stated Coach Marso. “The girls really battled the Panthers from start to finish. Congratulations to Veronica Schwartz on recording her 1000th career point in the game tonight. She led the Panthers with 18 points and is a tremendous competitor and one of the hardest working players we have to matchup against.”
