The M State lady Spartans suffered a 72-45 loss to Minnesota West on Wednesday night as they opened the MCAC Southern Division schedule in Worthington. M State turned the ball over 26 times, lost the rebounding battle 45-34, allowing 16 offensive boards, and shot just 32.7% (18-55) from the floor in the loss.

“We had a tough time trying to get into an offensive flow,” said Head Coach Janice Hendrickson of the lady Spartans. “We made too many unforced errors and gave up too many second chance opportunities. We need to make a quick turnaround to be ready for Saturday's game against Ridgewater.”

Sydney Hovland (20 points, 7 rebounds), Taylin Schleicher (8 points, 4 rebounds), Kassandra Algarate (8 rebounds, 3 assists) and Megan Dreger (5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) were the leaders for M State.

Minnesota West was led by Avery Van Roekel (17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists), Emily Shaffer (14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals) and Emily Schroer (13 points, 7 rebounds). M’kayla Mike dished out 6 assists and had 3 steals for the lady Bluejays.

The lady Spartans will host Ridgewater at one o’clock on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls.
