Fergus Falls put 30 shots on goal and Jadyn McKeever stopped 12 of the 13 shots she faced as the Otter girls hockey team posted an 8-1 victory over the Willmar Cardinals on Thursday night at the Community Ice Arena.

“The girls were determined to win this section game,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill. “Winning battles and moving your feet creates scoring opportunities. It was fun to see them get rewarded. Improved defensive play in the neutral zone by all five ‘D’ was outstanding.”

The Otters scored three first period goals. Gabby Brimhall got the scoring started with an assist from Amy Johnson at 8:21. At 11:28 Liz Mattson scored from Sophie Rausch to make it a 2-0 game. Rausch setup Jade Zierden for a shorthanded goal at 15:04.

The second period belonged to Rausch and Ellie Andersen. Rausch scored from Andersen at 4:17 and Andersen scored from Rausch at 5:43. At 16:10 it was once again Rausch from Andersen as the Otters took a 6-0 lead after two periods of play.

Andersen scored from Zierden at 6:33 of the third period and Rausch completed her hat trick and six point night at 10:15 with Hallie Sheridan assisting on the goal, along with goaltender Jadyn McKeever.

Willmar scored the final goal of the night at 12:12 when Mya Monson put the puck past McKeever. Serena Monson assisted on the goal.

Fergus Falls (12-5) will travel to Sartell for a game on Tuesday, beginning a four game road trip.
