Underwood and Breckenridge played overtime in a non-conference girls basketball game on Thursday night in Underwood with the Rockets pulling out a 43-40 victory over the Cowgirls.

Underwood led 22-16 at halftime and the game was tied at 36-36 at the end of regulation.

“We really struggled shooting the ball tonight both from the field and from the line,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland. “With that being said we hit some huge free throws in OT as we were 7-of-10 from the line in the extra period when we needed them most. Defensively, we played a really good game tonight. Breckenridge is a good team that has put up a lot of points this year and holding a team like that to forty points is a testament to how we played defense tonight.”

Brooke Hovland led Underwood with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 steals. Morgan Evavold added 12 points and 8 rebounds, Ceri Meech scored 10 points and Ally Johnson had 6 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

Underwood (7-1, 3-0 LEC) has now won five consecutive games. They will play in the Pelican Rapids Tournament on Friday, December 28 and Saturday, December 29. Their first game will put them up against Breckenridge once again, starting at 12:45pm Friday.

Breckenridge is now 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in Heart O’ Lakes Conference play.
