The Fergus Falls girls hockey team put 30 shots on the Prairie Center net on Thursday night as they recorded a 7-1 home ice victory. The Otters held the visitors to only 9 shots on goal as Mady Eklund stopped all but one Prairie Center shot.

“The girls fore-checked extremely hard and forced numerous turnovers that led to goals,” reported Head Coach Tim Lill of the Otters. “A great defensive effort by the entire team shut them down tonight.”

Maddie Hulter started the scoring at 4:33 of the first period with assists from Gabby Brimhall and Piper Andrews. A power play goal by Ellie Andersen at 5:46 made it a 2-0 Fergus Falls lead. Hallie Sheridan and Sophie Rausch earned assists on the goal. A power play goal by Sheridan at 12:01 was setup by Hulter and Andrews and at 13:44 the Otters increased their first period lead to 4-0 on a goal by Rausch, assisted by Marilyn Karsnia

Kylee Hopp got Prairie Center on the board just 54 seconds into period number two with an unassisted tally.

Rausch scored from Andersen at 6:04 and Sheridan added a power play goal from Andersen at 9:22, giving Fergus Falls a 6-1 lead after two periods.

Andrews finished off the scoring at 9:51 of the third with Hope Goepferd and Hulter picking up assists on the goal.

Fergus Falls (9-4) will open Holiday Tournament play against Bismarck, ND at Fogerty Arena in Minneapolis at 2:30pm on Thursday, December 27.
