Alexandria Boys Hockey Team Hands Otters 7-2 Loss

The Alexandria Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play Tuesday night in Fergus Falls and went on to record a 7-2 victory over the Otters in a Central Lakes Boys Hockey contest. 

Shane Birkeland got the scoring started just 35 seconds into the game with an assist from Ben Doherty. At 2:55 of the first period Andrew Revering made it 2-0 with assists from Doherty and Caleb Strong. Doherty then scored at 9:50 with Ben Jenson earning an assist, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead after one period of play.

Ian Richards scored the first Fergus Falls goal at 8:09 of the second period on the power play. Isaac Young assisted on the goal, which trimmed the Alexandria lead to 3-1. Doherty made it 4-1 with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 9:29 as the Cardinals regained their four goal advantage. At 13:25 Alex Jost scored from Zach Wosepka and Josiah Gronholz, and at 15:32 a power play goal by Evan Lattimer was assisted by Wosepka as the Cardinals took a 6-1 lead. 

In the third period Hunter Croonquist made it 7-1 with an assist going to Shane Birkeland at 5:13. Richards scored his second goal of the game at 13:47 for the Otters, putting the final score at 7-2. 

Alexandria had 32 shots on goal and goalie Ian Stumbo stopped 25 of them. Landyn James came up with 17 saves on 19 Otters shots.
