The M State Men’s Basketball team hosted the Mayville State JV team in their final home game prior to the Christmas break on Saturday. The Spartans had six players with nine points or more as they recorded an 88-65 victory to improve their record to 5-4 and their home record to 4-1.

"Our defense is improving and today again it was the difference as we held them to 25 first half points," stated M State Head Coach Shawn Sorenson.  "When we limit teams to one shot per possession it allows us to get easier opportunities on offense and that really helped us find a rhythm today.  Exciting week ahead as the players get to focus on studying for finals and then a great opportunity to finish the first half of our season strong with two games at the CLC Invite."

Austin Miller led the way for M State with 25 points, making 5-of-7 shots from beyond the arc. He also had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Alend Alemadi made 6-of-8 free throws and finished with 15 points and 5 assists. Samuel Priem and Aaron Solberg each contributed 13 points. Solberg made all six of his field goal attempts and grabbed 6 rebounds, and Priem gathered four boards.

M State shot 55.6% (30-54) from the field and made 56.5% (13-23) from 3-point range. The Spartans also took good care of the ball with only eleven turnovers.

Mayville hit just 36% (23-64) of their shots. They were led by Matthew Slaba with 13 points and Cory Norman with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Romello Hicks added 8 points and 6 steals and Darrel Wilson had a team high 5 assists.

The Spartans will play Central Lakes on Friday at 8:00pm and Rainy River at 2:00pm Saturday in the Central Lakes College Invite in Brainerd.
