The Breckenridge Cowboy wrestlers travelled to Ortonville on Tuesday to face off against three non-conference opponents. After dropping the first match to Quad County (42-27) and the second to MAHACA (Morris Area) 42-18, the Cowboys bounced back to defeat Ortonville 37-27 in the nightcap.

"The win against Ortonville was a true team effort," explained Head coach Tom Haire. "A lot of people don’t understand the strategy that plays out in a wrestling match. Trying to get good matchups is sometimes the key to a team victory. We had some of our junior high wrestlers step up and take on much more experience wrestlers to help keep the Ortonville wrestlers in the weight classes we wanted them in."

Noah Buckhouse (8th), Zander Gregor(7th) and Grant Davis (7th) went out on the mat tonight and battled without question because they knew the team needed them.   Grant saved us three team points by wrestling hard all three periods and even tossed his opponent at the end, just coming up a little short.

Another pivotal match in the dual came in the 152 pound weight class where Austin Snobl dominated his opponent from start to finish.   Austin had a couple of tough matches in the first two duals and a lot of times that breaks a wrestler’s confidence. Austin showed tonight why he is a captain for this team by keeping his head up and getting the job done.

Going 3-0 on the night were Zach Haire, Daniel Erlandson, and Tanner Differding.   Aidan Ruddy and Dylan Pearson each picked up two wins and Austin Snobl, Bryant Hasse and Wyatt Differding had a win.

The Cowboys next competition will be Tuesday, December 18, when they host Wahpeton and Fergus Falls.   All Cowboy wrestling alumni are invited to attend and will be recognized during the course of the night.
