The Henning girls basketball team got off to a 15-5 lead over Underwood on Tuesday night, however, the Rockets battled back to within three points at halftime, trailing 18-15.  The two teams were tied at 43-43 at the end of regulation and the Rockets escaped with a 49-47 overtime victory.

"We started out really slow," said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.  "We were not mentally ready.  Hand it too Henning as they came ready to play.  They started out fast and we were really out of sync.  The second half was a struggle, but I have to hand it to the girls as they battled."

Henning had a five point lead with less than two minutes to go.  A switch in defense and a steal by Ally Johnson led to a 3-pointer by Brooke Hovland.  On the next possession Ceri Meech stole the ball and found Hovland for a layup to tie the game with less than a minute to play.  Kayla Rocholl hit one of two free throws with fifteen seconds to go, but Kylie Frederick hit one of two free throw with nine seconds left to tie the game and force OT.

"In OT we were able to get a nice post look from Johnson to get a lead, but Henning was quick to tie it up," reported Hovland.  "We were able to get to the foul line to seal the win as Rocholl and Hovland went 4-for-6 in the final minutes.  A steal by Rocholl allowed us to run the time out.  It was a battle and we were lucky to come away with the win."

Rocholl led Underwood with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals.  Hovland had 9 points and 3 boards, Johnson finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds, Morgan Evavold added 6 points and 5 rebounds, Josey Bugbee contributed 6 points and Meech had a solid floor game with 4 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Underwood improved their season record to 4-1.  The Rockets will host Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Friday night.
