The second ranked team in Class 3A Boys Basketball, the Princeton Tigers, overcame a 12 point first half deficit to beat the Fergus Falls Otters 73-67 on Friday night in Princeton.
Princeton point guard James Flicek was fouled attempting a 3-point field goal at the end of the first half and made all three of his free throws, trimming the Fergus Falls lead to one point, 37-36 at the half. Flicek went on to score 15 of his team high 24 points in the second half to spark the Tigers victory. Six-foot-seven post player Jon Stimmler added 16 points and Adam Williams contributed 11 for the Tigers. Princeton made 21-of-26 shots from the free throw line, including 15-of-17 over the final eighteen minutes.
Matthew Johnson poured in 31 points to lead all scorers, making 8-of-10 free throws. The Otters, as a team, shot just 12 foul shots and made 10 of them. Ethan Olson contributed sixteen points in the contest, Ashwin Stratton had 8 and Dominic Aguilar finished with 7 points. Johnson also had 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists, while Aguilar had 10 rebounds and assisted on five baskets. Nic Pearson pulled down 7 rebounds for the Otters.
Both teams took good care of the basketball as the Otters had nine turnovers and the Tigers had seven.
Fergus Falls will play at Sauk Rapids-Rice on Tuesday night and will host Alexandria on Friday, December 14.
