Mound Westonka Tops Otter Girls on Late Goal

Mound Westonka scored with 2:10 remaining in the game to defeat the Fergus Falls girls hockey team by a score of 4-3 on Friday night at the Community Ice Arena. The loss puts the Otters at 4-2 on the season.

 

"We have to find a way to play sound, confident hockey against good teams consistently," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  "We fought back after every gut punch they gave us and I am very proud of that.  It's a process and we will learn from each experience, good or bad."

The White Hawks took a 2-0 lead on first period goals by Kailey Niccum, assisted by Grace Peterson at 1:08, and Lauren Burris, assisted by Niccum and Peterson at 7:04. Fergus Falls cut the lead in half when Amy Johnson netted an unassisted goal at 12:36.

The Otters pulled even with a second period goal from Hallie Sheridan at 14:49. The goal was assisted by Ellie Andersen and Sophie Rausch.

At 10:23 of the third period, Sydney Hules gave the visitors a 3-2 lead with an unassisted tally, however, Ellie Andersen scored from Rausch at 12:20 to tie the game at 3-3. Burris notched the game winner at 14:50 of the third period.

Jadyn McKeever stopped 20-of-24 shots on goal. The Otters put 28 shots on the Mound Westonka net with goalie Taylor Smith stopping 25 of them.

Fergus Falls will continue their four game home stand on Tuesday with a game against Alexandria. They will host St. Cloud on Thursday and East Grand Forks on Saturday.
