The Ashby boys basketball team will be led by an experienced head coach who is new to the Arrows. John Holsten who formerly coached at Alexandria High School and in the Little Eight Conference at Brandon-Evansville, takes the reigns for the 2018-2019 season in Ashby after the retirement of John Kent.

Seniors Scott Johnson (F), Christian Norby (F/P) and Dakota Ecker (PG), junior Noah Johnson (G), sophomores Jaden Norby (F/P) and freshman Hunter Norby(F) all have starting and extensive varsity experience.  They are joined by sophomore guards Ashton Ecker and Jake Rein as returning letter winners. Rounding out the roster are junior Vince Finkelson and freshman Carter Spangler.

"There are several varsity players with extensive varsity experience who possess good basketball and leadership skills," noted Coach Holsten.  "Scott Johnson and Jaden Norby were All-Little Eight Conference players last season.  Scott has scored over one-thousand career points.  Christian Norby is practicing very well after re-habbing an ACL tear from last February.  We need some of the younger players to improve and provide quality play off the bench."

Peter Nelson and Tanner Langlie will serve as assistants to Holsten.

As for the competition the Arrows will face, Holsten says, "Defending Section 6A champion Mahnomen-Waubun returns many outstanding players and is the favorite.  The Little Eight Conference is very balanced with many teams able to contend for the championship."
