Shawn Sorenson begins his second year as head coach of the M State Mens Basketball team and he does so with three returning letter winners from his 11-16 squad of a year ago.  All-State player Chris Tungseth and point guard Isaiah Lemke, who led the Spartans in minutes per game, steals per game and assists per game last year, were both lost to graduation.

Austin Miller (SO, Guard), an All-Southern Division player last year, Samuel Priem (SO, Guard) and Aaron Solberg (SO, Post) are the three starters returning.  They will serve as team captains.  Solberg was second in the state in blocks per game (2.2) a year ago.

Incoming freshmen Kyler Newman (Wing), Martin LaFond (Guard) and Alend Alemadi (Guard) will be counted on to contribute right away.

"Perimeter quickness and shooting should be strong assets for us," said Coach Sorenson.  "We will need all five players to focus on rebounding every defensive possession or it could hurt us in games."

Daniel Berge will once again serve as assistant coach to Sorenson.

Rochester and Anoka-Ramsey are Sorenson's picks as the top teams in the MCAC Southern Division.
