The Barnesville volleyball team came from a 2-0 deficit to record a 3-2 win over Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday night in Perham. The Wolverines posted wins of 26-24 and 25-16 to take a 2-0 lead, however, Barnesville went on to win the final three sets 25-17, 25-9 and 15-13 to advance to the Section 6A semifinals against New York Mills on Tuesday at 7:00pm in Perham.

Barnesville was led by Elora Passa (15 kills, 22 set assists, 28/29 serving, 4 aces, 8 digs), Claire Meyer (21 kills), Emily Condon (6 kills, 14/15 serving, 1 ace, 37 digs), Kya Anderson (56 digs, 20/22 serving, 1 ace), Samantha Passa (16 digs, 13/14 serving, 2 blocks) and Kimberly Maesse (21 set assists, 13/13 serving, 11 digs).

“Our match with WDC is something I have never witnessed before in my years coaching,” said Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “We dropped the first 2 sets and were trailing 12-16 in the 3rd set before we took charge and starting playing to win. Our defense really got us back in the match. We fought hard on defense and picked up balls that we didn’t in the first 2 sets. Our offense also stepped it up when we worked the net at a quicker tempo and found players to serve at when they were receiving. In set 3 we made a 13-1 run, set 4 was a 25-8 run, and the final set was 15-13. This team never gives up and digs in to battle back with their opponents. Claire Meyer had an outstanding game tonight. She was our go to hitter when Elora was in the back row and Claire definitely wanted to get the ball when we were on offense. She found holes in their block and in their defense. Elora was able to get her a perfect set on the net each time due to our great passing from Sam, Kya and Emily. Volleyball is such a momentum sport. Seeing these girls dig and work so hard to get the momentum back after losing the first 2 sets was incredible.”
