Nick Detloff scored three times and five different players got in the end zone on Saturday afternoon for the Barnesville Trojans as they advanced to the Section 8AA championship game with a 53-0 victory over the Roseau Rams.

“I felt we were ready for whatever they threw at us,” said Head Coach Bryan Strand of Barnesville. “Our intensity was good from the beginning of the game and the kids just went out and played well. Our offense is really clicking right now and Nick Detloff had an outstanding game, considering he’s been sick most of the past two weeks.”

Chase Brenner got the Trojans on the scoreboard at 7:15 of the opening quarter with a 3 yard run. Connor Morse added the extra point kick. At 4:36 of the quarter Detloff scored his first TD of the day, going 78 yards to make it 13-0, Barnesville. With just ten seconds left in the quarter Detloff scored on a 14 yard run and it was 19-0.

At 5:16 of the second quarter Detloff went 60 yards for his third touchdown of the game, increasing the lead to 25-0. With 2:30 remaining in the half quarterback Adam Tonsfeldt connected with Preston Snobl on a 28 yard TD pass and Brenner scored the two-point conversion to put the halftime score at 33-0.

Just 1:15 into the second half Tonsfeldt ran the ball in from 32 yards out and Kellen Hinsz scored the two-point conversion to give the Trojans a 41-0 lead. At 1:02 of the third Aaron Schiefert scored on a six yard run to put the score at 47-0.

The final touchdown of the game came from Logan Ernst on a two yard run with 4:10 to play, making the final score 53-0.

Detloff carried the ball just 7 times but ran for 181 yards. Tonsfeldt had 82 rushing yards on 10 carries, Schiefert ran for 65 yards on 8 carries and Brenner rushed the ball 7 times for 52 yards. The Trojans had 427 rushing yards as a team and 497 total yards of offense.   Tonsfeldt completed all 3 of this pass attempts for 55 yards.

The Barnesville defense held Roseau to 108 (70 rushing, 38 passing) total yards. Schiefert and Brenner each intercepted a pass, Brooks Martinson recovered a fumble and Brady Kroll and Hunter Zenzen each picked up a sack. Zenzen was in on six tackles, Tonsfeldt led with 7 tackles and Snobl had 5 tackles.

“Connor Morse, our starting right guard, played very limited time because of illness and freshman Cam Heng who has found some playing time didn’t play because of illness. Hopefully this passes and doesn’t infect anyone else this week,” said Strand. “It was a very physical game, but I felt our kids did a great job of doing what they could and matching Roseau’s intensity. We got out of the game healthy and will be ready to go next Friday for the section final.”

The Trojans will match up with a Hawley team that beat them 19-18 on October 12 in Hawley. The game is scheduled for an 8:00pm start at the Fargodome on Friday, November 2.

“I felt we played well the last time we played Hawley, we just didn’t convert on any of our two point conversions. Hopefully, that improves for this game,” said Coach Strand. “I feel the teams are equally matched and it will come down to whoever makes the fewest mistakes. It should be another fantastic final between the two programs. I have been very pleased with our kids on how hard they have been working and the steady progress we have shown throughout the year. I do feel we are playing our best football right now.”
