Pelican Rapids dominated New York Mills on Tuesday night as the Vikings advanced to the Section 6A semifinals on Saturday at 2:00pm against Ada-Borup by recording a 35-6 win over the Eagles.

“I felt the biggest difference in the game was turnovers that we were able to take advantage of,” commented Head Coach David Haugen of the Vikings.  “We didn't turn them into points every time but were able to stop their drives before giving up a score and swing some field position.  We scored on the first possession of the second half and went on to score on three possessions in a row to really seal the win.”

McHale Korf ran for four touchdowns and passed for another, accounting for all five Pelican Rapids touchdowns. Korf finished with 96 rushing yards on 15 carries and completed 5-of-9 passes for 156 yards.

Korf scored on a one yard run with two seconds remaining in the first quarter as the Vikings took a 6-0 lead after one. A five yard run by Korf in the second quarter and his two point conversion run put the Vikings ahead 14-0.

In the third quarter, Korf scored on an 11 yard run and connected with Jayden Rutherford for a 66 yard score. Marcos Franco was successful on one of two extra-point kicks and the Vikings led 27-0 after three quarters.

A nine yard run by Korf with 10:28 left in the game and a two point conversion run by Matt Ziebell gave the Vikings a 35-0 lead. New York Mills scored on an 11 yard run with 3:25 remaining in the game.

The Vikings had 338 yards of total offense, 182 coming on the ground and 156 through the air. Rutherford (2 catches, 90 yards) and Hayden Christenson (3 catches, 66 yards) were the receiving leaders for the Vikings. Matt Ziebell (5.5 tackles), Johnny Ziebell (5 tackles) and Reggie Funk (4.5 tackles) were the defensive leaders for Pelican Rapids. The Vikings forced five turnovers in the game, two fumbles and three interceptions.

New York Mills ran for 162 yards and had 201 total yards in the game.
