The eighth-seeded West Central Area Knights hosted the ninth-seeded Battle Lake Battlers in a Section 6A opening round volleyball playoff match on Monday night with the Knights winning a five set match from the Battlers, 15-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-14, 15-11.

"We got off to a slow start but came around at the end of set two to come withinn two points," reported WCA Head Coach Amy Linn.  "In set three we played much better and found our rhythm which carried over into the remaining sets."

The Knights were led by Morgan Woodle (18 kills, 2 aces, 16 digs), Kaitlyn Sanstead (34 digs), Holly Gilsdorf (11 kills), Hailey Bennett (10 kills) and Kaleigh Anderson (27 digs).

The Knights will travel to Graceville to face C-G-B on Thursday night.

Hayle Knudson earned her 1000 career assist on the last kill of the first set for the Battlers and finished the night with 28 assists.  Allison Marso ended the night with 16 kills and 8 blocks, Kate Christensen added 8 kills and was 28-for-29 serving, Hailey Smith had 21 digs and two players, Halie Johnson and Abby Bellig added 5 kills each.

"We started strong, but could not maintain their level of play," said Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  "The Battlers made too many unforced errors and WCA took advantage.  We pushed to the end but they made the big plays down the stretch."
