Spartan Football Season Ends with Loss to Central Lakes

A 21 point second quarter helped Central Lakes College to a 35-7 win over M State on Saturday in Brainerd as the Raiders finished the regular season with a 6-2 record. The Spartans end their season at 1-6. 

Central Lakes took a 7-0 lead at 10:17 of the opening quarter when Jordan Thompson hauled in a 7 yard scoring pass from Jake Franklin and Jack Qualladded the extra point kick. 

In the second quarter the Raiders scored on a 9 yard run by Nyassinu Crowell, a 3 yard run by Dan Griep and a 42 yard pass from Franklin to Will Peabody. Quaal booted all three PAT kicks to make it 28-0 at the half. 

Following a scoreless third quarter M State got on the board with 4:45 left in the game when Mykhal Chavis scored on an 8 yard run and Caleb Brate kicked the extra point. 

Ridge Reed scored the final TD of the day with just 53 seconds to play when he found the end zone on a 4 yard run. Quaal tacked on the final point as the Raiders recorded a 35-7 victory. 

Central Lakes held M State to just 161 yards of total offense. The Spartans were led by Chavis with 59 rushing yards on 21 carries. Will Gunther completed 8-of-13 passes for 104 yards and Lucas Maloney was the leading receiver with 6 catches for 84 yards. Defensively, Ce’zaun Enge recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass for M State. Curtis Edwards also recorded an interception and Lewis Jackson was the leader in tackles with 12. 

The Raiders piled up 373 yards with Crowell running for 171 yards on 21 attempts and Franklin throwing for 148 yards. Central Lakes also forced three Spartan fumbles and picked off a pass
