The season came to end on Wednesday night for the Hillcrest football team as they fell to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 38-12. A fourteen point fourth quarter allowed the Wolverines to pull away from the Comets after C-G-B took an 18-12 halftime lead.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to pull out a win in our last game of the year,” stated Hillcrest Head Coach Derrick Clark  “We came out on our opening possession and drove right down the field and put a touchdown on the board.  We did some really good things in the first half and put ourselves in a position to get a win.  However, we couldn’t find a way to get off the field on defense as CGB’s run game was very difficult to stop.  Offensively we had a couple costly turnovers in the second half that hurt any momentum we had and we just came up short.”

Logan Disabella scored the first touchdown on a 39 yard run just 1:04 into the contest to spot the Comets a 6-0 lead. A 70 yard kickoff return by Preston Reedy on the ensuing kickoff tied the game at 6-6.  Sam Adelman scored on a five yard run with3:28 left in the first quarter to give the visitors a 12-6 advantage and then scored from two yards out with 6:28 left in the second quarter to make the score 18-6. Hillcrest cut the lead to 18-12 when Thomas Zwiers connected with Trevor Antuna on a 29 yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds remaining in the half.

In the third quarter, C-G-B extended their lead to 24-12 on a 7 yard TD run by Nate Moberg and made it a 32-12 lead on a five yard TD run by Michael Niesen and a two point conversion run by Adelman. The final TD came with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter as Moberg scored on a four yard run.

C-G-B ran for 353 yards on the night and had 418 yards of total offense. Moberg ran for 156 yards on 28 carries and Adelman had 87 yards on 11 attempts, while completing 4-of-6 passes for 65 yards.

The Comets finished with 226 yards. Zwiers had 83 rushing yards on 14 carries and completed 9-of-19 passes for 94 yards. Disabella had 66 yards rushing on 11 attempts and John Vall was the leading receiver with 64 yards on 5 catches. Defensively, Disabella and Anthony Panza each had 12 tackles, while Vall had 11 tackles and an interception.

“Senior John Vall had a great game offensively for us and let us in catches and receiving yards and fellow senior Trevor Antuna hauled in a touchdown catch,” reported Coach Clark.  “Senior Logan Disabella had a great game for us defensively, leading the team in tackles.  Anthony Panza and Simon Strommen also played well defensively for us, their pursuit and hustle to the ball was great tonight.  I’d like to thank our four seniors, John Vall, Logan Disabella, Trevor Antuna and Nick Foss for their leadership and commitment to this program.  They are a fantastic group of seniors that our team will certainly miss next year but we are extremely lucky to have had them in our program.”
