On Monday night the Brandon-Evansville Chargers hosted Wheaton/Herman-Norcross in their senior night match, which the Chargers won in five sets. “It was great to recognize those girls,” said Head Coach Kelly Olson of B-E. “They have been a great part of our program for many years.”
Leaders for Brandon-Evansville were Bailey Schaefer (19 kills, 9 digs, 4 aces), BrittanyKorkowski (11 kills, 1 ace), Mikenna Pattrin (12 kills, 3 blocks), Kailee Klimek (5 kills, 1 block, 3 digs, 1 ace), Sara Jacobson (12 digs) and Madison Quinn (49 set assists, 3 blocks, 2 aces).
“With Wheaton in town we knew they played a hard-nosed style of defense,” stated Coach Olson. “In set one we jumped on them quickly and did a great job in our ball control. We carried that momentum all the way to the end winning 25-15. The second set we seemed to coast the whole set instead of fighting for each point. I don't want to say we let them hang around, but we didn't execute enough and Wheaton took advantage and won the second set 31-33. Coming into the third we were flat. We seemed to be waiting for a spark which didn't happen until it was 9-20. At that point we started top play and play hard. We came back and missed a serve at 20-21, which led to them finishing out the set win 21-25. The fourth and fifth set we regained our focus and what we wanted to do. We held the momentum and kept them out of system. It was a hard fought 5 set win with us winning 25-16 and 15-6.
Tuesday Ashby will host a regular season matchup with the Chargers.
