Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 opened their summer baseball schedule in Wahpeton on Friday.  Post 30 jumped out to a 1-0 lead after two innings, but couldn’t hold the lead as they went on to lose the game, 4-2.  Isaac Ellison (2.1IP, 4H, 4R, 4ER, 1BB, 2K) started on the mound and took the loss.  Hunter Powers and Sammy Holmes JR finished on the mound for Post 30.

Leading hitters for Post 30 were Luke Pearson (2-2, 2B, RBI), Levi King (1-3, 2B, R) and Brock Scheuerman (1-3).

After two outs were recorded in the top of the second inning, Fergus Falls put together a rally.  King doubled to right center field and Pearson knocked him in with a single.  Post 30 scored again in the fourth inning to cut the Wahpeton lead to 4-2, but that was as close as they got.

“I was pleased with the guys’ effort and overall play,” commented Post 30 Head coach Trevor Larson.  “We played good defense, not committing an error.  Offensively, we faced a good pitcher, but had good at bats and made him throw a lot of pitches.  As a pitching staff, we issued a few too many walks to a good hitting team.  The score doesn’t indicate how well we played.  Baseball can be funny that way!”

Post 30 looks to bounce back Saturday against a familiar foe, Detroit Lakes Post 15.

The Fergus Falls team is coached by Trevor Larson, Tosten Mann and Cole Knudson.
