The Breckenridge Cowboys prevailed in the first round of the section tournament, beating the Browerville Tigers 1-0 on Tuesday. Trey Vogelbacher started on the hill for the Cowboys and dominated the Browerville lineup throwing a complete game shutout, allowing only 2 hits and 0 walks to go along with 10 K's.

"That was the best Trey has thrown all year and he stepped up in a major way today when we needed him most," commented Breckenridge Head Coach Jack Hiedeman. "He had total command and hit every spot and he was doing it with both his fastball and breaking pitch."

The Breckenridge defense stood firm behind Vogelbacher as well, helping him out with some great plays and committing no errors.

"Offense was tough to come by but between Trey and our defense we did exactly what we needed to," noted Coach Hiedeman. "No free base runners and we made a lot of really nice plays in the field. I have to give a lot of credit to Gabe Armitage today. He was thrown in at shortstop, a position he hasn't hardly played all year and he was amazing. He made every play and one base runner can totally change the dynamic of some of those innings so I just really commend him being ready to go today."

The offense was slim pickings for the Cowboys but it wasn't for lack of opportunities. The Cowboys had a runner in scoring position every inning but couldn't find a timely hit to bring them in. The lone run of the game was scored in the third inning. Logan Church singled to start the inning and was advanced to second on a Paul Armitage sacrifice bunt. Church advanced to third on a Browerville error and scored on a wild pitch. Cooper Roberts and Jacob Nicholson led the Cowboys offensively with two hits apiece.

The Cowboys travel to Long Prairie on Thursday and will play at 2:00 and 5:00 as they enter the double elimination portion of the tournament.
